Fly Fishing Montana
Here is a great video to get you pumped for some Tarpon fishing! Fishing at night under the lights of Miami? Sounds like a good way to spend your days.
31 Days till till these fly get a dose of salt water and hopefully end up in some nasty critters mouth. Chris McCreedy was gracious enough to invite Justin and Me down to Islamorada Florida to go chase some salt water beasts. Now, if we get 30 powder days between now and then life would be perfect.

We all love a great fly fishing movie. You know the one, it warms your soul, stimulates the hipocampus brining back great memories of giant trout, the feel of Montana air on your skin, green grass and cold water. Dont forget how good that sun feels, when it’s around.
Upon initial viewing I did not think this video had any of these qualities. Shooting a fish with a bow? I used to do it as a kid but have not done it for years. After a few minutes…. memories of shooting carp in the pond behind my house come flooding back. Those were the good old days. I would shoot carp in the morning and throw little skeeter dries to pan fish and Largemouth in the heat of the day. Yes, Largemouth will eat a size 18 mosquito. You gotta wait for them to eat it before you set the hook…. Sound familiar?
For years I have not killed many fish. Well there is the annual Pike Slay Fest and a few Lakers here and there. You gotta remember that some fish should be removed. Asian Grass Carp is one of them. Know I have nothing against carp or the Asian Grass Carp. But these creatures are invasive and will reck a fishery in no time! There they have been used for food and medicine in the Chinese culture for over 1000 years. The common carp was brought to the U.S. in 1831, they were distributed widely throughout the United States by the government as a foodfish. When was the last time you had a McD’s Fillet-O-Fish? Now they are running amuck in the Mississippi River Basin all the way up to the Great Lakes. Bad news. Blah, Blah,Blah.
Montana is doing a great job trying to police up the invasive species that will wreck the fishing for everyone. This video reminds me of how fun it is to shoot carp with a bow, warms my soul, stimulates the hipocampus brining back great memories of “The Pond”, the feel of humid air on the skin, green grass and warm brown water!

Carp Hatch
Lo Fi Fly does a great job on their self proclaimed polished turd. What is a polished turd? Well… Check out www.lofifly.com, click on the digital turds tab and you will find out. Lo Fi Fly shoots great video and does a great blog. We all love what fly fishing brings to our lives and these guys are no different. They love to fish, shoot video and tell a great story. No one who fishes can argue with that, especially the story part. The video they shoot is great and has lots of character. Can anyone say “Ebay” or ” Yard Sale”?
I have lots of favorites in this video. Double Browns are hard to beat. The beast at the end … Wow! My personal favorite is Ice Cube at the end. It brings me back to 1993. Check Yo Self almost reached the top of the charts, was on Ice Cubes Greatest Hits and was featured in Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay. Have you seen that one? I could go on and on about Ice Cube, he bagan his carrer in CIA, then to NWA, Boyz N The Hood, Friday, Barbershop, Friday After Next, Three Kings and the controversial….. Are We There Yet? Really?

I would Agree

Today Was A Good Day.
Whats in your tying room? My New Years resolution was to keep my tying room clean and functioning at 100% capacity, at all times. So.. for the last two days I have been cleaning, organizing, hanging and wishing I was out fishing and not doing all the above. It’s amazing how easily the room all comes together with a little time and patients. After a few days of cleaning I am finding lots of things that have a special place.
The Dyna King in the corner came from my mom, pheasnt tails in in the cup… shot near my old house in Trego with my favorite pistol. Dont get me started on my favorite pistol. Sticker on the left… Won it from www.fishingporn.com, you guys rock! Scissors… Lots of cutting with those guys. MacBook Pro… Thanks Buddy! I love my slate board on the left, its full of little bags that cost $2.00 each… That would pay for my plane tickets to Florida. Thats right… Florida for 8 days of tarpon fishing with Chris, Thats some thing we will talk about later. Whale tale, Harmonica and Snow Ghost beer. I could go on and on… But what really matters is your story and tying room. Take a picture and write a story about your room, email it to robweiker73@hotmail.com. I will feature your tying room and tell your story to the people!
Lakestream Cinema? Yes. Thats right… Lakestream Cinema. Tune in for great fishing video clips with our 2 cents thrown in. This weeks feature presentation was a tough one. I thought that I had it all figured out until I saw this video…
Scavengers, Seagulls and Crabs? Really? I guess that was not a bad idea. Add a little biomass to the ocean and all the little critters will have some food to eat. The science was all there… 1000lbs TNT, directional charge, 75 yard perimeter and scavengers to clean it all up. I guess George, the guy being interviewed at 1:00, was not a demolition expert in the military. After 4 years in the Army I learned a few valuable lessons. What are those lesons? I will spare you the full book but one that still sticks with me today is….. You can never have enough explosives!

Last summer a soon to be fly fisherman walked in the door and wanted to learn how to cast a fly rod. That was all I needed to hear to get outside and teach my new friend how to throwing some loops. I would like to think that I taught Henry something, but I think Henry was born a natural! In about 5 minutes he was throwing 30 feet of line with a nice tight loop. He even kept his wrist straight and paused? Really? I dont even do that after 20 years of fly fishing. This afternoon his Grandmother Holly Pulsifer sent me a photo of Henry and me out in front of the shop. Keep up the good work Henery and cant wait to get you into some fish!
So you want to live in Montana? How many of these conversations did you have when you told your friends that you were moving to Montana? I can think of 2 or 3? We all love Montana for different reasons and I bet you can find one of them pointed out in the video. Where is the love for Fly Fishing? I guess fishing is close enough. It might not be a free world but it’s a free Montana!!!!
