Spring is a great time of the year in Montana. Things warm up, the sun shows up and the fishing is awesome. We have just made it through another long winter of nymphing and it is time for a change. Dont get me wrong, I love to nymph as much as the next guy. Long nymph rigs, the suspended game, short leashes, tiny indicator shallow water rigs, in the film rigs and the famous hopper dropper. I love it all! But…. Not many things beat fishing dries to rising trout. Nothing says Montana more than taking a whole day to row a boat down a river, look for rising fish on the banks, sneak in up stream of a rising trout, take a minute to watch what is going on, make a good reach cast, feed a little slack, watch that trout eat your fly, give it a second and take it all in… wait, give it a nice lift and hang on!
Leave the strike indicators at home on the next warm and cloudy day…. Dry or Die!
