The last few weeks it seems that there is a common theme in bug selection… I’m sure there are lots of bugs out there that fish are eating and my flies are not the only ones that work. Latel y I’ve been tying lots of Purple Hazes, dozens of them falling out of the vise. I used to hate this fly but the last few years it’s grown on me. Why? Fish eat it… duh… form the Flathead River to the Clark Fork more fish are eating this guy for me than any of the other bugs. Put it in the mix with a big lead fly or fish it solo. Fishing a single Purple Haze is my favorite! Pick apart seems, bubble lines, right over those ledges and on the drops. No matter how you fish it, I bet that you’ll find fish that want to eat it!
Fly tier, half ass photographer, hard working guide and my better half is my dog Tater. Want to have a good time on the water? Need some advise on tying flies? Look up Rob in the shop and he'll get you hook'd up!
