So ..... some new changes headed for our merry group of fly tyers. Thursday night fly tying will now be conducted on a monthly basis. This time of year can get pretty funky for all considered. Work, questionable road conditions etc , etc . We seriously feel it will be a better deal for everyone to make tying night a monthly event, A monthly event that will give everyone plenty of time to plan for, and will include featured tyers on whatever bug we are spinning up. Trust me it will be cool. We have lots of really neat stuff happening in the old tying room, Karsten Carlson will be starting an after school intro to fly tying in February. A great opportunity to get the next generation of fishermen and women into the craft. So yes "The times they are a changing," but they are changing for the better! This is tying season, and although we have are featured nights we are ALWAYS more than happy to help out with all of your fly tying needs. Never hesitate to stop in and ask ! Well there it is folks we will keep you updated on all the new stuff happening. In the mean time, stay warm and stay tying .

THANKS FOR SUPPORTING YOUR LOCAL FLY SHOP NO MATTER WHERE IT MAY BE. Ya know I gotta admit this is one of my favorite evenings. I have lots and lots of love for these little guys. I have seen some serious noses slurp them in and when the bite gets.....funky they have come through with stars and stripes. Emergers are a staple (or should be) in everyones dry fly box and you really can never have too many. They are serious weapon to those stud fish whose mouth seems to be zippered shut to every pattern in in your quiver. For this evening I don't want to have one specific bug on the table but would like to open up the floor to some free creative thought on these guys. And for those of you who might be needing to add some to the arsenal, this will be a great night to come out ! So guys and gals lets get some tied up. Doors open at 6 o clock ! look forward to seeing you there.

Ok OK the holiday craziness has come to an end.......until next year. But now 2020 is in and its back to our tying nights. I apologize for the run around last week but this week are a go ! Our warm temps have been a blessing on our river system and those folks getting after it have been sticking some outstanding fish. So I think we are gonna go with our original plan for the "Pink Lucifer." This time of year pink is king and this bug has been very good to me . So Materials :
- Your favorite scud hook size 12 - 16 - Red copper wire in size small - medium depending on hook size - Ice dub in pink - Pink tungsten bead (size will also depend on hook) So there it is guys and gals. Pink Lucifer is on the table for Thursday. Doors open at 6. It will be great to see you out there ! The Holiday season is behind ......Looking forward into the Winter bowels of 2020.
Time to get out there on these warmer Winter days and take full advantage of some of the better BIG FISH days we see all year. We love the winter bite. Sometimes not all that productive, and other days it will surprise the hell out of you. Solitude , and some world class migratory Westslope Cut Throat Trout. Dont go early, and fish the heat of the day. Make a plan. Fish proper slow deep winter runs. Pick and chose wisely. Where you find one, there are more. Get deep, use split shot , have a reason to set on every drift. Those whom set more catch more. The takes are way subtle man !!! Pink is the ticket !! Come see us at Lakestream Fly Shop. Cheers, and TIGHT LINES Big Country So ........amid all of the holiday craziness It just occurred to me That we might want to pick a Thursday night that isn't the day after new years day. This time of year can be hectic for everyone and I think it a wise idea to reconvene when the holidays are really behind us. So we will push this Thursday to next Thursday January 9, 2020. Next week it is game on ! From all of us here at Lakestream we wish you a very safe and very happy new year.
A happy happy new year to all and everyone. I'm excited and I hope you guys are too. A new year to me means new experiences, and a new opportunity to improve on things you did last year. It also stirs the thought of personal bests getting measured streamside. Yea.... its getting pretty ...... chilly out but don't let that stop you from getting after it. This time of the year and pretty much throughout the winter vortex the name of the game is pink, deep and slow. So for this Thursday's gathering I would like to put a fly on the menu that has worked very well for me in all of the above. The "Pink Lucifer." This little guy has become a serious confidence bug when the weather turns cold and I hope it does the same for you !
You Will Need : - your favorite scud hook size 12-16 - Ice dub in pink - Size small -BR copper wire in red - Flashabou (preferably in silver) - Angora goat or Pseudo seal dub in pink - Pink tungsten beads (these should be applicable to the size hook you wish to use ) So there it is guys and gals. This is a really fun pattern to tie and can really be effective on those cold days on the river. Doors open at 6 and we'll tie until they're done. Well ladies and gentlemen it would appear that the day we are all waiting for is upon us and closing fast ............ Christmas !!!! The craziness in town is at full tilt and this wave is getting ready to break. So for this week, guys and gals. lets take a Christmas break and focus on the people we love and a time of the year that only comes around once a year. Thursday Night Fly Tying will resume on January 2nd in a brand spanking new year. That's all there is folks . I hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas and a very happy new year ! we will see you all in 2020.
Well, Last Thursday we got it done. Super fun times tying up some really cool techy dry flies with great folks. Someone even got to tie they're first fly ! So Since we tied some for the surface game I figured this week we should get something going on the subsurface side of things. And so what might you ask is on the docket for this Thursday .......... SOFT HACKLES ! Everyone loves soft hackles and I mean everyone, and if you don't we will make a believer out of you ! Soft hackles are tremendous players on our rivers and can be an absolute dead ringer when things get a little........off. These flies are straight to the point and fun to tie. I think our flagship for this evening is going to be the soft hackle pheasant tail. The pheasant tail nymph needs no intro and in soft hackle form it is deadly. Now the pheasant tail soft hackle is whats on the table for the evening but if they'res a nasty little variant you'd like to spin up bring it on ! For the pheasant tail soft hackle you will need...
1. You're favorite standard nymph hook 2. Uni Thread in 6/0 or Veevus 10/0-8/0 3. Small or BR copper wire 4. pheasant tail ( go figure ) 5. peacock herl 6. gold or brass bead ( this is optional ) So there it is guys and gals. Soft hackle pheasant tails for this Thursday Doors are ajar @ 6:00 and we will tie until they're done ! |
