As is typical this time of year, things have been running at full steam here at the shop. We’ve got plenty of guide trips heading out on the Flathead as well as some trips down on the Clark Fork and Blackfoot. Reports from the Flathead and its upper forks have ranged from good to great. If you are a DIY angler, definitely try to get out here soon and take advantage of some of the best days on the North Fork and Middle fork. There are plenty of bugs out and about right now. Try to head out earlier or later to see the most bug activity. Bigger junk is certainly still picking up fish at certain times of the day, and we’ll see the terrestrials (ants, beetles, hoppers) becoming a bigger player as the weeks progress. We had pretty cold and wet June which quickly switched to a hot and dry July. It doesn’t really seem like this weather pattern is going to change any time soon. This daily hot weather has equated to a river that continues to drop. At its current level the river in all its stretches has plenty of good holding water. Most fish are right where you would expect them to be.
Although we are crankin here in the shop, we certainly still have time to chat with you and help you get out on the water. We’ve got lots of great bugs in the bin that are certainly working right now.
If your interested in a trip in the next few weeks (or later), we still have availability on most days. They are filling up quickly so give us a call ASAP to book your day on the water with us.
Thanks to everyone who chooses to support local businesses like us. We wouldn’t be the fly shop that we are without people like you supporting us.
Stop by and say hi, then get on your way to catching some fish!
We’ll check back again soon with another fishing update when things start to change around.
