Spring in the Valley

Well, here we are! Spring has officially started in the valley, the Flathead River blew out this past week. So now we wait patiently for it to get back in shape. Lakes, Lakes, Lakes, and lakes. Come by the shop, we’ve got a ton of gear to get you dialed on lake fishing for the spring season. We have a ton of patterns to fish on the still water and the big streamers to target them north country gators. The next few days coming up the weather looks less then desirable to do much of anything outside, which provides the perfect opportunity to twist up some fly patterns. We are stocked up on tying material for your rainy day needs!

The past couple weeks have yielded some good days on the Flathead! If the weather gets cold enough we may even see it fish for a couple days early next week. That being said the Mighty Mo has been producing some great spring fishing conditions and will continue to do so for the immediate future. Some of our guides have been having 20 plus fish days pretty consistently! We still have a few guide days available this spring, give the shop and we will get you setup for an unforgettable day on The Missouri.

For our friends that like to chase the warm water species, conditions are improving! Our local warm water lakes are starting to see bass staging in shallower water, in a few weeks time they will move on to beds along the banks for easy targeting. The pike bite has been very slow still, there have been reports of seeing a few on warmer sunny days, but the action has been far and few between. If your interested in chasing any of these fish on a guided trip, give us a call in the shop! We have a handful of guides that will be more than happy to get you on some warm water fish.

In other shop things to tell y’all about. We have a limited stock of Fish Cat Scouts and Fish Cat 4s available now, they are moving fast! For the new comers, fishing this time of year almost requires some sort of float tube to effectively fish the water that’s close by. These Fish Cat crafts are perfect for the person looking to get something that will help them access more water without having to buy a boat to do so. A lot of us here at the shop use them and we feel like its a game changer to have in the Flathead Valley.

As getting out on the water becomes ever more popular we ask if you are reading this, to please practice good ethics on the rivers and lakes! Keep boat ramps clear and be deliberate when using them, be considerate of others fishing around you, and don’t forget we are all trying to do the same thing! So be nice! A friendly reminder, we do not sell fishing licenses and the best way to get one is online at https://ols.fwp.mt.gov/ . Be safe out there folks, it doesn’t take a lot water to have something bad happen, with the river has high as it is, practice caution.
